What is Seeker?

Seeker.gg is the #1 biggest and best property portal for Guernsey. We are the largest hub for jobs and vehicles and we have some nice stuff for Guernsey too.

Great, but no, I mean... what is Seeker?

Seeker.gg is a search engine and data aggregator for Guernsey. We index information that is freely available on the internet and then provide links to it. It finds property for sale and for rent in Guernsey, vehicles (such as cars, vans, boats and motorbikes) for sale in Guernsey and details of jobs available in Guernsey, and then puts it all together in one place.

Why?

Seeker.gg's objective is to connect people - people looking for a new home or commercial property with the estate agents, and so on. By having all things in one place, we aspire to make the process simpler and easier.

How much does it cost?

Nothing. It's (mostly) entirely free for everybody - the users of the site and all of the businesses featured. We have a few "value-add" services available to the businesses, but these are completely optional.

How do you make money?

We don't, really. We make a little on the advertising, a little on the branding and a little on the data platform, but that all goes to funding our support of the Guernsey Weather Fox.

Why do you do it then?

Because we think this is the sort of service that Guernsey needs and we hope it's useful.

Why should I use it? What's the catch?

The concept of a search engine and data aggregator is pretty standard for the internet nowadays with the likes of Zoopla, Rightmove, CompareTheMarket, OnTheMarket etc. are all household names in the UK. A lot of the local agencies use these UK-based websites, but we felt that a local portal that was focused on Guernsey was needed. There's no catch (that we can think of), we just make it easier to find the thing you're looking for!

Can I advertise on the site?

Yes, probably. First thing to do is to check our business page for all the options and then get in touch if you want discuss. We do limit the number of concurrent advertisers.

Who or what is the Guernsey Weather Fox?!

The Fox is a mysterious weather ninja who lives in an underground lair, completely naked. He lives on a diet of seaweed and longnose. He is surrounded only by ancient weather charts, is completely blind and predicts the weather entirely by smell.

What?

Yeah, nah, obviously not. But he is pretty mysterious. The GWF produces regular and remarkably (scarily so) accurate weather forecasts, surf forecasts and water conditions. He's a fantastic resource for Guernsey and we're delighted to sponsor him.

Do I need to create an account?

No. Anyone can browse the site without creating an account.

Why should I create an account?

The real power of Seeker.gg is in storing what you're looking for as a saved search. This achieves a number of things - but in short, whenever you return to the site you can quickly call up the same search again without having to rekey the parameters. Also, we will notify you whenever there are new items that match your search, as they appear on the site!

How do I get notified of new properties / vehicles / jobs?

The first thing to do is create an account. Then, when you have configured a search, click the 'Save Search' button - it's on the right hand side just above the first line of results. That's all! You can also do the same from the 'My Account' section of the site in the Saved Searches tab.

How long will you notify me for?

By default, we will continue to notify you for 90 days after you create a saved search. However, you can cancel (or extend) this at any point.

I'm not receiving any notifications?

It's possible there haven't been any new results! But also, check your junk / spam folder. If possible, whitelist cyndi@seeker.gg. If you're still experiencing problems, please contact us.

We feature data from approximately 150 businesses. You can see the list here.

How do I get my business featured?

Please get in touch with a link to your website and we'll do the rest!

What's the catch?

There's no catch. We feature your stuff for free.

So what does it cost? Surely there's a catch.

It's completely free. We even do the hard work to get your site listed. We have some stuff you might like to pay for, but that's totally optional.

Why is this property / vehicle / job missing from the site?

There could be various reasons. Most likely is that we only show listings that are still available and this means we exclude those marked as sold/unavailable/expired, etc. We will also sometimes exclude individual items for various reasons.

How do I list my house/car/job etc. on the site?

You will need to find an estate agent or vehicle agent or one of the classifieds sites and we will then display it automatically (assuming we show them on the site, that is!)

I'd like a viewing of this property?

We are not an agency or dealer. The agency(-ies) that is/are responsible for that property are listed in the details - you will need to contact and register with the agency. We have no involvement in that process.

What does 'we can't show you this information' mean?

For one reason or another we've been instructed to not show the information.

We feature data from 150+ Guernsey businesses, all at (mostly) no charge to them (or to you). There is occasionally a business who doesn't understand what we're trying to do here and rather than finding out more instead just threatens us with legal action so we have no choice but to limit what we show.

I don't understand.

Let's imagine you're trying to sell your house. You instruct an agent or two to do the marketing and viewings of your property. One of their main jobs is to get out and publicise your property to get as much interest in it as possible. So that means they should be using all resources within their means to do this - you are after all paying them a pretty hefty commission for what they're doing.

If they're your agent, a service you are paying them for, we are marketing your stuff on their behalf and we're doing it for free and on this occasion your agent has taken the decision to actively NOT market your property on the most popular property portal in Guernsey.

What? What does this mean?

It means that if you were listing your property / vehicle / job etc. with that agency, then you're missing out on a lot of free marketing, promotion and exposure because your agent has behaved in this way.

It means that if you are looking for a property / vehicle / job etc. then this agency, is purposely making it harder for you to find the stuff they have available.

That's insane. What can I do about it?

We agree! Why on earth would an agent reject absolutely free search engine traffic? Our advice is to find a better agent who has a better grasp of ethics.

No, seriously. Which actual businesses would do this?

There are a couple, it's true. We don't understand it either. It's free traffic. :shrug:

What does 'no information' mean?

Our technology indexes content on the public internet as it changes over time. We therefore have a historic record. We try to show only current and relevant data but sometimes historic stuff can surface when you find our website via another search engine or an old link. Most of the time this is OK, but sometimes, we receive requests to remove the data.

Nope, this thing is definitely missing and it's not for one of the reasons above.

I've spotted an error with a listing.

Every page has a 'Report a problem' link which you can use to quickly send feedback. Alternatively, please get in touch to let us know and we'll do our bes to fix it.

I did and you still haven't fixed it!

Seeker is a free service run by a small team of people. Whilst we do our best to keep the site up to date and fix errors promptly, there may be times when updates and fixes take a while to be carried out. And a little courtesy often helps.

I clicked a link but the thing is unavailable!

You might be looking at an old or cached link which may lead to something on the site that no longer exists. From time to time our algorithms do get it wrong, though, so if doesn't look right, please let us know and we'll fix it!
